A SHORT HISTORY TRIP

Our friends Mike and Mark Mangham have been back in the vaults of the Northwest Louisiana Archives at LSUS finding other cool photos of downtown Shreveport ‘in the day’. We know that you love these old scenes as much as we do. Thanks to Twin Blends Photography, LLC for their work in keeping our local history alive. Be sure to follow them on facebook.

Recognize this corner? Sure you do! That sign in the foreground is attached to the Slattery Building on the SE corner of Texas and Marshall, looking across to the building that now houses Retro Downtown BBQ, Retro Down Town Cafe, and the Smoke Shop. The building that says Grayson on the front is now The Missing Link restaurant.

This photo is the middle of Texas Street looking south toward the bridge. The Joy Cinema was in the middle of the 600 block of Texas Street where Robinson Film Center is now. Just to your left and out of the frame would have been the old Sears Department Store, now the Lofts at 624.

This is the 400 block of Texas, the Shreve Memorial Library. One big change you can see is that the main entrance used to be off of Texas Street. Now it is on the east side of the building in the plaza.

We added one more for grins. In the 1950s, there was a big shopping day called Shreveport Day with specials and sales. This is the 500 block of Texas Street, 1955. In the foreground to your right is Grayson’s, which is now The Missing Link restaurant. You are looking west, toward First United Methodist Church.
